Two Monkeys of Brueghel

In the window he does keep two monkeys chained to the ledge
Neither weeping nor wailing yet just despairingly staring
One monkey is our past, the second our present yet our future is not here
The past monkey just reflects in shocked stupor of all our misdeeds
The present monkey his eyes downcast in shame and sorrow
The future monkey just across the vast waters, just a sailboat away from our shores
For when our future monkey does clamber up to the ledge, just to free us from our past and present
Thus freed of our past and present our future is much joyful monkey business indeed.
